This beautiful xylophone (also known as a balafon) has been imported from The Gambia. It has been hand carved from teak by local peoples and covers a range of six notes.

This really is a beautifully crafted and unique musical instrument. Suspended below the wooden bars of the xylophone are six differently sized gourds. These dried fruit shells act to vary the pitch of the instrument, producing various tones from smooth to sharp.

The xylophone would make an excellent gift to give to someone who knows how to play the instrument or who is serious about learning. It would also be appreciated by those with an interest in African musical instruments or ethnic cultures.
