The bodhran is an Irish drum that originates from the Irish rebellion of 1603. The rhythm of the bodhran was used to keep the warriors in time during their marches and also to announce the arrival of armies.
The bodhran is a popular instrument in Irish music. Although similar to a tambourine in appearance they are played very differently! A bodhran is usually played in a seated position. Whilst supporting the bodhran with one hand, the other hand can use the palm or 'tipper' stick (which is included) to strike the drum. Differing amounts of pressure will produce a wide range of tones.
