This thumb piano has been handmade in Bail from a dried coconut shell.

The piano is very easy to play: Just hold the Karimba in one hand whilst plucking the metal bars with the other. The instrument is tuneable and has a seven note range, meaning the pitch can be changed to your liking. Known also as a Calimba or Kalimba, the musical instrument originated in Zimbabwe and was played by the Shona people when settling Mozambique. The Shona people still use the instrument to this day during their ceremonies.


This ethnic musical instrument would make an excellent gift to give to someone who likes unusual hand made items. It would also be appreciated by those with an interest in African instruments. Please note: As shown in the photo, there are two different designs available, your karimba will be selected at random.
