£16.99

This mbira thumb piano has been imported from Zimbabwe. It has been handmade and is very easy to play. Just support the mbira in one hand whilst plucking the metal bars with the other. There are eight different keys on the mbira, each of which produces a different tone.

Also known also as a kalimba or karimba, the mbira originated in Zimbabwe and was played by the Shona people when settling Mozambique. The Shona people still use the instrument to this day during their ceremonies.

This ethnic musical instrument would make an excellent gift to give to someone who likes unusual hand made items. The mbira would also be appreciated by those with an interest in African musical instruments.

The mbira measures 16cm (6") in length and 9cm (3.5") in diameter. This is just one of the lovely unique gifts available from HandcraftedUK. For more gift ideas please take a look around our store. You're sure to find the perfect gift for that special occasion!
